A popular outdoor skating rink that attracted more than 30,000 people in less than 50 days will be making a return this winter.

The Bayside District Corp. last year brought a Rockefeller Center-like tradition to the city when it set up an outdoor rink on the corner of Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue during the holiday season as part of its Winterlit celebration.

The private-public management company that oversees Downtown will ask the council to contribute $25,000, which would help pay the cost of providing electrical service to the site.

Bayside officials estimate that the rink will serve more than 40,000 skaters this winter.

City Hall is expected to lose approximately $21,000 in parking revenue as a result of the transformation of the site from a parking lot to a rink.
