A short stretch of ocean on the border of the Pacific Palisades and the unincorporated areas of Topanga Canyon and Malibu was closed Wednesday due to a small sewage discharge.

Los Angeles County public health officials were notified Wednesday morning that 100 gallons of sewage discharged into a storm drain. As the storm drain empties into the ocean, the ocean water is closed to recreational use 100 yards west and 100 yards east of the intersection at Pacific Coast Highway and Coastline Drive.

“We are asking people to avoid swimming or entering the ocean to surf in this particular stretch of water,” said Jonathan E. Fielding, director of public health for the county.

Recorded information on beach conditions is available around the clock at (800) 525-5662 and online at www.lapub-lichealth.org/beach.
