The Santa Monica Elks are prioritizing their gift giving for the year. The Santa Monica Elks Veterans Committee, the Santa Monica Elks Americanism Committee, the Jack Showers Foundation and the Santa Monica Emblem Club members are reviewing the “wish list” of the Veteran’s Hospital. They will use this list to determine their priorities for the year.

Last year, they donated a golf cart, two sets of golf clubs, $2,070 for the Disabled Olympics, 22 boxes of mensa and women’s clothing, and 40 sets of mensa underwear. They held two barbecues — serving about 400 each time — as well as a Christmas party and a dinner outing for the hospitalized veterans.

Ken Miller, president of the Santa Monica Emblem Club, said his group will continue to participate in many of the programs, including Memorial Day ceremonies at Woodlawn cemetery, barbecues, visitations and clothing drives.

If you have any of the luxury items listed, the Santa Monica Elks are asking that you donate them to the veterans at the hospital: TV sets for patients New computers for patients Sports and community event tickets Stationery and stamps Many of the patients are indigent, so money is always welcome for transportation and bereavement donations.
