The SMC Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery will present two free "In Conversation" artist roundtables tied to its current exhibition, "Concrete Hope | Esperanza Concreta," part of FotoSoCal by CuratorLove — a consortium of more than 20 community college galleries across Southern California. Curator Erika Hirugami, who also teaches History of Photography at SMC, will lead both discussions.

The first roundtable takes place Monday, April 7, at 11:15 a.m. in Art 214 on the SMC Main Campus, 1900 Pico Blvd. Photographers Antonio Perez and Damon Casarez will discuss their work. Perez explores identity, history, and culture through multiple media, drawing on his Chicano and Mexican heritage. Casarez uses photography to revisit childhood and adolescence, examining how personal identity is shaped.

The second roundtable is Thursday, April 24, at 5 p.m. at the SMC Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery, 1310 11th St., Santa Monica. California artists Jackie Castillo and Jamil G. Baldwin will discuss the personal, social, and cultural influences behind their lens-based practices. Castillo works in film photography, sculpture, and installation, while Baldwin focuses on analog photography and questions of representation and liberation.

Both events are free. More information is available at smc.edu/barrett.
