Santa Monica College continues its Distinguished Scientists Lecture Series this spring with a special presentation by Dr. Peter Galie on “Vascularization of Self-assembled Peptide Scaffolds for Spinal Cord Injury Repair.” The presentation includes an audience Q&A.

The presentation is free, and will be held online as a live virtual event at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 8\. A Zoom link will be posted with the listing April 8 on the SMC Events calendar at smc.edu/calendar. To attend, the Zoom software must be installed on the viewer’s computer. A free download is available at zoom.com.

Galie is an associate professor of Biomedical Engineering at Rowan University and a former postdoctoral researcher in the Physiology department at the University of Pennsylvania. His primary area of expertise is the fabrication of three-dimensional vascular models that both investigate the contribution of hemodynamic factors to pathology, and form the basis of vascularized scaffolds for regenerative applications. Currently, his work is supported by the American Heart Association and the National Science Foundation.

The event is sponsored by the SMC Associates (smc.edu/associates), a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus.
More information is available by calling the SMC Office of Public Programs at 310-434-4100.
