Santa Monica College has moved its Jazz Ensemble concert to Monday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Music Hall at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street.
Under the direction of conductor Frederick Keith Fiddmont, the ensemble will present "The Masters," a program showcasing works by Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and Herbie Hancock.
"Duke Ellington once said, 'A problem is a chance for (us) to do our best,'" Fiddmont said. "In these challenging times, musicians are sometimes given the opportunity to rise up against the tumult and produce profound beauty."
Los Angeles-based baritone saxophonist Adam Schroeder will perform as special guest for the evening. Schroeder has established himself as a prominent figure in the international jazz community through his work with Anthony Wilson's Nonet, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Bennie Wallace's Nonet in New York, the Clark Terry Big Band in New York and the Adam Schroeder Quartet/Quintet.
General admission tickets cost $10 plus a service charge. All students receive free admission with valid student identification.
