Santa Monica College will host a closing reception for the SMC Student Portfolio Exhibit on Friday, June 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the SMC Photography Gallery. The free event marks the end of the portfolio exhibition, which has been displayed since May 31.
The closing reception coincides with the opening reception for the Annual SMC Student Photography Exhibit at SMC's Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery, allowing visitors to view photography at both locations during the same evening.
The SMC Student Portfolio Exhibit stands apart from other college photography shows because students in the SMC Photography Department managed every aspect of the exhibition. Students prepared the gallery space, selected and arranged the displayed works, and organized reception refreshments.
Student photographers created high-quality prints for their portfolios, which they will use to showcase their talents and skills to potential employers. These portfolios serve as professional presentations for opportunities with art galleries, design and architecture studios, advertising firms, film and video studios, and other photography career paths.
The SMC Photography Gallery and portfolio exhibition are located on the second floor of Drescher Hall at the SMC Main Campus, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica. SMC's Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery and the annual student photo show are at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street at Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica.
