Santa Monica College will host "Brown the Experiment," a free talk by Mexican-American multidisciplinary performance artist rafa esparza, on Wednesday, March 11, at 11:10 a.m. in Art 214 on the SMC Main Campus, 1900 Pico Blvd.
The internationally renowned artist will discuss themes of heritage, identity and other influences driving his work in installation art, sculpture, drawing, painting and performance.
His work has been presented at private and public locations ranging from parks and nightclubs to galleries and museums, including solo and group exhibitions at Americas Society in New York, Commonwealth and Council in Mexico City and Los Angeles, Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
Awards include the Pérez Prize, Latinx Arts Fellowship from the Mellon Foundation, Lucas Artist Fellowship and California Community Foundation Fellowship for Visual Artists.
