To answer the question posed by the title of your recent article “What smog? SM honored for clean air initiatives” (Oct. 24): What hypocrisy! A real news article would have at least made mention of the shadow side of “green” Santa Monica. The alternative car show at Santa Monica Airport and a few electric car stations do not begin to offset another feature of the airport, which the article somehow overlooked. That noxious feature is the ongoing and increasing jet emissions which so often saturate the air blowing into neighborhoods, schools and parks nearby.

Santa Monica may smell fresh and green to those who don’t live near the airport, however, many folks who live around the airport would say Santa Monica smells toxic. How shameful to brag about clean air Initiatives while, at the same time, totally ignoring such brazen polluting of the ocean breezes.

What smog indeed.
