CITYWIDE ¬ó In the month of July cops are going to crack down on drivers who love to tailgate.

The Santa Monica Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Section has been focusing on different bad driving behaviors in an effort to cut down on the number of accidents.

Ranging from behaviors such as failing to yield to pedestrians in February to speed violations in May, SMPD aims to keep the streets safe for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians alike.

According to Santa Monica Police Traffic Investigator Chris Dawson, tailgating is a serious issue. A majority of the accidents as a result of following too closely are due to inattention or being in a hurry.
