This past week, Q-line asked: Given the state and direction of Santa Monica today, what would be a fitting nickname for the city, worthy of a bumper sticker? Explain. Here are your responses: ✆ “Given what has happened to Santa Monica over the years, it can now be designated ‘Miami Beach West’ due to the horrendous overgrowth. A close second would be ‘Skid Row West,’ due to all the bums and freeloaders.” ✆ “The appropriate name at the present time would be ‘Pigsty.’ Basically it is the responsibility of the city manager’s office to oversee the workings of all departments of city management and government. These concrete sideways are covered with wads of chewing gum and need to be scraped and steam-cleaned and are now being repaired with eye-sore black asphalt that will erode with the winter’s rain. Bus riders are being put next to alcoholic squatters, whose life’s ambition is to sit, sleep and regurgitate on our bus stops. Every alleyway between Montana Avenue and Pico Boulevard is awash will urine stains and human feces. I could go and go, but I do not wish to wax negative. ✆ “It is time for the city manager to stop shaking hands and take a bike ride through the city’s apartment and house neighborhoods. The ride will be very revealing.”
