Film Independent announced that, for the second time in a row and the 18th time since 1985, the Spirit Awards will be held on Santa Monica Beach on Feb. 25, 2012.
Despite moving to Downtown Los Angeles two years ago for its 25th anniversary, the event, the first awards ceremony to exclusively honor American independent films and their creators, returns to Santa Monica.
“Santa Monica’s been wonderful to work with; and to have an awards show in the afternoon, there’s no better place than on the beach,” said Shawn Davis, producer of the Film Independent Spirit Awards.
The event is always held right before the Oscars, to give filmmakers a laid back awards show where they can let their hair down and have fun, Davis said.
The Spirit Awards will be broadcast exclusively on the Independent Film Channel at 10 p.m. later that night.
This will be the 27th Film International Spirit Awards.
