ST. MONICA — Girls' volleyball fans are in for a crosstown matchup as the St. Monica Mariners will host Santa Monica crosstown rival Lighthouse Christian Academy at 5 p.m. tonight.
Under the guidance of third-year head coach Allison Rivera, St. Monica has yet to lose a game so far this season. The Mariners already have a win over the school’s biggest rival, beating Mary Star of the Sea in straight games last week, with a box score of 25-22, 25-14, 25-13.
The Lighthouse Christian head coach, Stephanie Sommer, also has her Saints off to a winning start, with only one loss so far this season, which came against Malibu High School. They have early-season wins against Ribét Academy, Pacific Lutheran and Price high schools.
The Saints will end a three-day stretch of consecutive games tonight against the Mariners.
Lighthouse and St. Monica last played each other Sept. 23, 2008, when the Mariners beat the Saints by a score of 3 games to 1.
