A not-so-funny thing happened on the way to Pasadena to the St. Monica football team on Saturday.

While en route to play Blair — a game the Mariners would win 42-0 — the bus carrying the team ran into a guard rail while mistakenly exiting the 101 Freeway just before the game, Head Coach Larry Muno said.

The crash, which Muno said happened as the bus was traveling approximately 40 mph, shook the players up, but none were injured enough to miss the game.

“It was pretty gnarly,” Muno said. “But, it was all good.”

Muno said that the accident disabled the doors and the team had to wait for the fire department to arrive to pry them open.

The win improved St. Monica’s record to 3-2.
