# State coastal cleanup day this weekend

While thousands are expected to flock to the beach on Saturday for the first-ever Flügtag event on the Santa Monica Pier (see page one), hundreds of people are expected to be cleaning the same area.

The 19th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, an international event in 90 countries and all 50 states, will take place in Santa Monica from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Six beach sites at designated lifeguard towers have been selected in Santa Monica, including towers 4, 8, 14, 20, 24 and 27.

There will be free parking for volunteers in assigned beach lots, which are: Tower 4: Lot 10, 445 PCH Tower 8: Lot 8, 810 PCH Tower 14: Lot 4S, 2030 Barnard Way Tower 20: Lot 4S, 2030 Barnard Way Tower 24: Lot 4S, 4030 Barnard Way Tower 27: Lot 5S, 2600 Barnard Way Tell the parking attendant you are a cleanup volunteer for free parking.
