On May 17 at about 6:25 a.m., Santa Monica police officers responded to a radio call for service in the 300 block of Broadway regarding a subject walking in the roadway and blocking vehicles from proceeding. The subject was holding a stick and threatening several people as they walked by.
Officers attempted to contact the subject, but he walked away. Officers were able to detain the subject in Santa Monica Place without incident.
Hiyabu Gebremedh Hiyabu, 59, homeless, was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and walking in a roadway.
