Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath is hosting emergency preparedness fairs this fall to help residents prepare for disasters including wildfires, earthquakes and floods.
The events, scheduled for October and November in disaster-prone communities across the Third District, will provide families, older adults and small businesses with emergency planning resources and safety tools.
"Emergency preparedness is a way of life in the Third District," Horvath said. "Whether you've mapped your evacuation route and packed a go-bag, or you're just beginning to think about disaster planning, these fairs are for you."
Three events are scheduled: Saturday, Oct. 4, at Topanga Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 1, at Calabasas Community Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 16, at Skirball Cultural Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Each fair will feature hands-on demonstrations, emergency supply checklists, evacuation planning workshops and family activities. County departments including the Office of Emergency Management, LA County Fire and the Department of Public Health will provide free resources and guidance alongside local nonprofits.
Los Angeles County has experienced devastating wildfires, earthquakes and flooding in recent years, resulting in billions in damages. Horvath's district, which includes high-risk zones, has been on the frontlines of these emergencies.
The supervisor is extending National Preparedness Month beyond September to ensure sustained attention to emergency readiness and community resilience.
Additional dates and locations, including venues in the San Fernando Valley, will be announced soon. All events are free and open to the public.
