LOS ANGELES (AP) — A high surf advisory is in place for the Southern California coast and beachgoers are warned of dangerous waves and rip currents.
The National Weather Service says waves Wednesday could top 8 feet along beaches from Ventura County south to San Diego County.
The swells are generated by former Hurricane Eugene, which weakened to a tropical storm off the coast of Baja California.
Swimmers and surfers are urged to stay near lifeguards and never turn their backs on the ocean.
The surf advisory will stand through late Wednesday.
Forecasters say temperatures across greater Los Angeles are expected in the 80s and 90s.
