SAMOHI — Santa Monica’s boys’ volleyball team may have slipped a bit since opening the season ranked No. 1 in CIF-Southern Section Division 4, but they haven’t tumbled too far.

SAMOHI — It was just one game, but it looks like Samohi baseball is ready for the Ocean League. The defending league champs got a gem of an outing from starting pitcher Adam Padilla and an offensive explosion in the fourth inning to dispatch Hawthorne, 9-0, at home.
Samohi catcher Lino Lares tags out Peninsula’s Beau Steinhauer on Thursday on campus. Samohi went on to lose the game, 9-6. The loss sends Samohi to 3-8 on the season.
CITYWIDE — A pair of players from Pacifica Christian and one from St. Monica were named to the All-CIF-Southern Section basketball teams, it was announced this week.
The Santa Monica girls’ under-12 Extra Team beat a side from Camarillo Saturday on the strength of a golden goal in overtime to win an AYSO soccer championship.
SAMOHI — Head Coach James Hecht isn’t the only person who thinks Jordan Mathews is a heck of a basketball player. Apparently, the CIF-Southern Section’s coaches believe Santa Monica High School’s junior shooting guard is pretty special, too.
Crossroads junior Brandon Scott crosses the plate after scoring the winning run during the bottom of the 10th inning to beat cross-town New Roads, New Roads scored during the top of the inning, but Crossroads rallied back with two runs for the victory.
SAMOHI — Samohi’s victory over South Torrance featured a touch of the familiar and a good helping of new. The familiar was senior Adam Padilla, who threw a complete game, allowing just a lone run during Tuesday’s 3-1 win over South.
