PACIFIC PALISADES — While most prep football teams are experimenting with new school variations of the spread offense, Palisades High School is going with a decidedly old school tactic: the wishbone.
ST. MONICA — With nine seniors set to graduate this spring on a roster of 12 girls, it seems this is the year for the St. Monica High School varsity girls’ volleyball team to reclaim the Camino Real League crown.
Lighthouse Christian Academy opened the 2010 football season with a 41-0 loss to Southlands Christian on Friday. Next up for Lighthouse, an eight-man team, is a road game at Hillcrest Christian on Saturday.
SAMOHI — The Vikings’ strong start to the season has been rewarded with a spot in the Western Division top 10, the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section announced Monday.
Cal-Hi Sports’ annual All-CIF-SS football team includes a pair from Samohi. Wide receiver Kris Comas and running back/defensive back Kori Garcia were named to the second team late last month.

EL CAJON — Turnovers and miscues foiled St. Monica at Christian of El Cajon on Saturday in a 24-20 loss. St. Monica Head Coach Larry Muno said that although Christian was a formidable team, it was his own side that let the victory slip away.
LAWNDALE — On a night when the Samohi Vikings had more on their minds than just football, the points just kept on coming against Leuzinger as both teams opened their seasons on Friday night.
PENMAR PARK — The Lighthouse Christian Academy football team needed a change after failing to win a single game last season. That change will come in the form of the team’s new head coach, Justin Kayne.
LAWNDALE — The Vikings may be taking on familiar foe Leuzinger to open the season today, but it’s a team that is sporting an entirely new look. Luezinger has a new head coach in Reginald Grant and is scrambling to replace 21 of 22 starters from last year’s team, including its quarterback.
SAMOHI — Looks like the Vikings are going with a three-headed monster to begin the season at running back. Santa Monica High School Head Coach Travis Clark has decided to use a committee to carry the ball as the Vikings prepare to take on Leuzinger on Friday to open the 2010 campaign.
Santa Monica High School’s boys and girls’ cross-country teams will travel to San Buenaventura Beach for the Seaside Invitational on Friday. The meet is the first of the season.
