CORSAIR FIELD — Santa Monica College held off a late rally by Pierce Saturday to secure a win, 37-31, at home. Pierce drove the ball all the way to the Corsairs’ 26-yard line but came up short when quarterback Jake Basmagian threw a low pass to wide receiver Joseph Morris that ended their rally.
BEVERLY HILLS — Santa Monica exchanged jabs with rival Beverly Hills all night, but delivered the knock out punch during a fourth quarter that saw the Vikings score 16 points, securing a 36-14 road win on Friday.
HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ST. MONICA — St. Monica’s athletic director Rick Bruce didn’t have to look far to fill a trio of varsity coaching positions. He didn’t even have to leave his own campus.

SAMOHI — No head coach, no problem for the Samohi Vikings. Santa Monica High School’s girls’ volleyball team swept Ocean League rival Culver City in three games (25-14, 25-22, 25-18) at home without longtime head coach Liane Sato, who missed the game due to illness.
DOWNTOWN — Santa Monica High School’s football team has entered the Western Division top 10 for the first time this season, the CIF-Southern Section announced this week.
