SANTA ANA — Looks like Marty Verdugo is getting his wish. Santa Monica High School’s head girls’ basketball coach came into the season looking to play some of the best teams in the nation.

ST. MONICA — It may have been so-called “ugly,” but St. Monica’s boys’ basketball team was able to hold on to a late lead and topple nearby Malibu, 43-35, Monday on campus.
