Usually when I write about a restaurant it’s a restaurant that serves about 100 to 300 meals a day. A few might serve 500 meals on a special day, or some fast food places might serve 1,000 people on a busy day.
GENERAL COMMENT: At last a seafood bar in the heart of Santa Monica. And a fish market in the same space so you can take dinner home with you. NAME: Santa Monica Seafood Restaurant WHERE: 1000 Wilshire Blvd.
I judge the quality of life in a city by the quality of its barbecue and the number of chocolate stores within or close to the city limits. I haven’t checked all the candy stores yet, but I’ve had some mighty good BBQ, and so far my favorite is Baby Blues.
I just had lunch at the new Whole Foods store on Lincoln Boulevard near Rose. There were a lot of people there, but with over one acre of gourmet and top quality produce, it didn’t seem very crowded.

Now that we can’t afford to go anywhere exotic until the economy comes back, we’re looking for foreign experiences here in Santa Monica. Lunch or dinner at The Port Royal Café is a bit like a trip to Jamaica.
Oh boy! Another really good restaurant to use up my discretionary food money. And this one comes with special features I rarely find: a great wine staff and wine selection.
I go to a lot of restaurants and wine bars, both with friends and as required by my demanding editor. But, I rarely return to most of them. The exception — the new Saluté wine bar.
When it’s time to go out for lunch or dinner, I usually think that anything I would want I can find in Santa Monica. So when the PR people from Sashi invited me to their restaurant in Manhattan Beach, I was skeptical.
It seems like I’ve been lunching in Marina del Rey since before there was water in the canals. And yet, recently, while browsing the Internet, I saw some favorable comments about Tony P’s Dockside Grill, a place I have never visited.
I’m a BBQ freak. I’ll drive miles for good Q. Maybe it’s genetic, or maybe it’s the recollections of childhood days in the back yard with the family, and Ida Mae grilling BBQ in the back yard.
