SANTA MONICA — When Marti White was born at Saint John’s Health Center, she had the distinction of being one half of the largest set of twins ever delivered at the hospital. In turn, Marti chose Saint John’s as the hospital where she would deliver her daughter Hilary.

“I knew my mother had gotten great care during a difficult pregnancy,” she said. “Even though I wasn’t pregnant with twins, I felt really good knowing the experts at Saint John’s would be there for me when my time came.”

Saint John’s was also the hospital of choice for Hilary — who was expecting twins.

“Twins run in the family,” recalled Hilary. “Saint John’s was the best hospital for me. I knew the care would be unsurpassed. And with the new Women’s Health Center opening this fall, I tell all of my friends that they will get the same personal care and excellent nursing as I did and they will be delivering in a state-of-the-art facility.”

Hilary now has two beautiful baby girls, but her pregnancy was difficult.

“I remember talking to my doctor long before my husband and I even started to conceive, and she ran through some of the difficulties you can have while carrying twins,” she said. “It didn’t stop us from wanting a baby, but it did make me think long and hard about the importance of good medical care.”

Early in her pregnancy, Hilary was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and warned to regulate her diet and stay off of her feet.

“The diabetes was hard,” she said, “but my doctor and all of the staff at Saint John’s gave me lots of support and took wonderful care of me. Thanks to them, I carried my babies until their due date.”

When the new Inpatient Pavilion opens this fall, the entire fourth floor will be devoted to women’s health care. In addition to 12 birthing suites, two dedicated operating rooms for Caesarian deliveries, a beautiful newborn nursery and a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit, the Women’s Health Center will feature a complete array of Perinatology Services.

Women facing risk during pregnancy or delivery are referred by their obstetrician to Perinatology Services at approximately 20 weeks of pregnancy. The new facility features specially equipped exam and fetal-monitoring rooms to support women requiring this extra level of supervision during pregnancy.

The facility offers doctors the very best patient care facilities available. Moreover, the high quality, compassionate care for which Saint John’s is known will be just as evident in the new building as it always has been.

“Perinatology Services is great for high-risk pregnancies like mine,” says Hilary. “I’m not sure if we’ll have another baby, but I know, come what may, that Saint John’s will always be the hospital for me and my family.”
