Santa Monica College student Anthony Cloyd has qualified to compete for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival’s national competition in the nation’s capital.

Cloyd, 23, is the first SMC student to qualify for the competition.

“I’m so honored, beyond honored,” Cloyd said. “It shows that SMC is just as good as a four-year university. I’m very proud to represent SMC.”

Earlier this month, Cloyd beat out around 200 other student actors in the festival’s regional competition at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where he won a $250 scholarship.

Cloyd was the only community college student in the Utah finals.
