*By Paula Drutz Santa Monica*

I completely agree with the article by Bill Bauer (SMDP, Aug. 1, page 4). There are many problems that Santa Monica needs to deal with in a compassionate and logical manner. For example, we need to help the homeless in a compassionate way by helping them with resources and enforce behavior that is acceptable in a civilized society. The City Council also needs to address the issue of parking. I live in the Sunset Park area and half the time I cannot park near my house. Parking in my neighborhood is permit parking, but most times I see students and people working near Ocean Park Boulevard park for free in my neighborhood, rather than pay for permit parking in a nearby lot.

I don’t understand why the City Council would approve a church expansion and not consider parking for this populated business area. I know the area in question and already it is absolutely impossible to find any parking, during the week and on weekends. Why are the residents in Santa Monica being victimized with this chronic ill of inadequate planning for parking? Wise up City Council, we don’t need to build 107 housing units on Main Street to add to our overpopulation and parking mess. We need to find a solution to our more pressing problems, like the homeless and parking.
