The construction that began along Fourth Street on Monday will continue for two more months.

New street improvements include landscaping at Strand Street, extended curbs at uncontrolled intersections, two marked crosswalks at Bay and Strand streets, median island extensions, a “welcome to Santa Monica” sign south of Marine Street and street paving. A new water main and connections also will be installed to increase water supply in the area.

Southbound traffic on Fourth Street from Pico and Ocean Park boulevards will be closed to thru-traffic. Local access to residents will be allowed, but all other traffic will be detoured to alternate streets. Overall construction is expected to continue through May 31.

For more information, call the 24-hour project hotline at (800) 200-8340.
