Two Santa Monica Pastry Chefs Turn Sweet Dreams Into Venice Reality

Two accomplished pastry chefs from Santa Monica, who first connected through social media eight years ago are bringing their combined expertise to Venice with monthly pop-up events featuring handcrafted desserts and bespoke creations.

Ina Bakes Studio, founded by Carolina Sigbaum and Sabrina Sin, will host its next pastry pop-up sale on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their studio's patio garden at 535 Rose Ave. The event, held on the first Sunday of every month, offers the community access to seasonal pastries, signature sweets and new creations made with ingredients sourced from local farmers markets.

"Our community has been asking for this event, and we're so excited to finally bring it to life," Sin said. "We've been carefully planning our menu, sourcing farmers market ingredients, and baking in small batches to ensure everything is at its best."

The partnership between Sigbaum and Sin represents a unique convergence of international training and local expertise. Sigbaum, born in Uruguay and raised in southern Argentina, founded Lady C Cakes in Santa Monica in 2012 after moving to California and starting a family. Her work gained recognition across Los Angeles, with custom cakes appearing at events, television shows and private celebrations throughout the region.

Sin's journey took her from  hospitality management at New York University to high-end event planning at iconic venues including The Plaza Hotel and The Rainbow Room. After relocating to Santa Monica in 2012, she pursued her original dream of professional baking, training at Sweet Lady Jane and The Peninsula Beverly Hills.

"Our collaboration started years ago with a spark of shared creativity," Sin explained. "Carolina and I first connected through social media, drawn together by a mutual interest in pastry and the idea of working on a project that, while it didn't come to fruition, planted the seed of friendship."

The duo reconnected eight years later while working at the same bakery, where they discovered their complementary strengths. Their partnership has since evolved to include high-profile corporate work with major entertainment companies.

"Our work has grown to include designing desserts for film productions and crew celebrations with companies such as Sony, Disney, Paramount, STARZ, TikTok, and more," Sin said. "It's an honor to create for such visionary storytellers, and we see it as a full-circle collaboration, crafting something sweet for the people who craft the stories that move us."

The bakery's name reflects the founders' personal connection — both women's names end in "ina," creating what they describe as "a simple, sweet connection that spoke to their partnership and shared purpose."

Ina Bakes Studio specializes in made-to-order items, from whimsical birthday cakes to elegant wedding treats and brand-aligned corporate desserts. The business has carved out a niche creating logo-inspired cookies and themed treats that reflect company cultures.

"At Ina Bakes, we don't just make desserts, we craft experiences," Sin said. "Every item is baked to order, with bespoke creations that celebrate life's milestones."

The Venice location was chosen for its intimate atmosphere and community connection potential. "We fell in love with our little studio the moment we found it, it's intimate, charming, and feels like home," Sin said. "The cozy patio garden is the perfect setting to welcome our community, share our desserts, and create a warm, personal experience that goes beyond just picking up a treat."

Looking ahead, the partners envision expanding their role in the community while maintaining their commitment to quality and accessibility.

"At  Ina Bakes, our vision is to become the community's go-to spot for baked goods that are as beautiful as they are delicious, always made with fresh, quality ingredients," Sin said. "We want everyone to enjoy our creations, so keeping them affordable, accessible, and full of flavor is at the core of what we do."

Pre-sales for the monthly pop-up events go live at inabakes.com at the beginning of each week, allowing customers to secure their preferred items in advance. Current information about events and offerings can be found on Instagram @inabakesstudio.

The October 5 event represents the latest chapter in both bakers' journeys from their respective backgrounds to their shared Venice studio, where they aim to create what Sin describes as "a place where neighbors gather, milestones are celebrated, and every visit feels special."
