About eight months after two of the largest volunteer meal providers — HOPE and Hand-to-Hand — moved into the new OPCC Annenberg Access Center, the two groups have settled in, serving meals and reaching out to 90 to 200 people a day, according to Julie Rusk, the human services manager for City Hall.

In her homeless update to the council, Rusk mentioned that she has met with HOPE and Hand-to-Hand to discuss the homeless action plan and how the meal providers might refocus their efforts to support the goals of the plan.

She added that there are currently six to eight groups that provide outdoor meals in Santa Monica.

“Staff continues to work with those groups and individuals to encourage them to partner and bring food distribution indoors,” she said.
