*By Gerald M. Condon Santa Monica*

Using the veteran facilities in Brentwood as a place for some Santa Monica homeless veterans is not a new idea. I compliment City Councilman Shriver and all others who support this idea, but may I respectfully suggest they review the history of the consequences when in the 1940s and 50s and prior thereto when those facilities did house homeless veterans.

If they investigate, they will find that the “homeless veterans” that did occupy the Brentwood facility permeated the then San Vicente Boulevard (Brentwood) area and caused minor and major criminal acts generating a “hue and cry” in the community for the removal of the “homeless veteran” from the Brentwood facility because of the “minor and major nuisances” caused by the “homeless veteran” who roamed the area.

Wouldn’t history repeat itself? I suggest that notwithstanding the superficial merits of the idea, history would repeat itself.
