*Make a turn on... Highway revisited:*

*By Daily Press staff*

A small stretch of road leading into Santa Monica could soon be named “Homeless Haven Hill,” “Bum Boulevard,” or “Re-Elect Bush in 2004 Street.”

Regardless of whether or not the monikers are representative of Santa Monica, City Hall will consider each next week anyway.

Residents were asked last year to offer suggestions on what to call the access road to the PCH, located between Palisades Beach Road and Ocean Avenue. Nearly 100 ideas were forwarded — some serious, others not so much.

Among the submissions: A pair for “Bloom Way,” in honor of current mayor Richard Bloom; five for “647(f)” — the California penal code violation for drunk in public, honoring the city’s homeless population; “Pothole Place” and “Liberal Lane” — referring to the city’s political leanings.

The road was once called State Route 187\. City Hall asked residents in December and January to submit their entries through an online poll promoted through the Internet and the city’s television show, “Santa Monica Update.”

City staff plan to present the list to the City Council for consideration next Tuesday. The council can either direct staff to use one of the suggested names, one of its own or narrow the list further and conduct an online poll.

The one-block street, which currently contains no addresses, could be named to honor someone in the community or a shared community value.
