Santa Monica police officers, fire fighters and kids with the Police Activities League will be at Muscle Beach this afternoon, May 26, to honor former SMPD Officer and Marine Rick Crocker with a CrossFit “hero workout.”

Crocker was killed six years ago while serving in Iraq.

The plan is to get the “Rick” workout listed on the national CrossFit website (www.crossfit.com) and to make the event an annual tribute. CrossFit workouts are comprised of constantly varied functional movements (like pushing, pulling, squatting, lifting, running) executed at high intensity. It is popular amongst military and law enforcement.

The “Hero Workout of the Day” is named after those who have given their lives in the line of duty.

The “Rick” workout includes four rounds of 20 hand release burpees, 400-meter runs, 30 sit-ups and five 15-foot rope climbs.

Those interested in participating should meet at Muscle Beach (southside of the pier) just before 4:30 p.m.
