Emmy Award-winning actress Leigh Taylor-Young returns to the stage in the world premiere of The Best Boarding House in Delaware, a new play by writer/director Marja-Lewis Ryan, opening March 5 at The Electric Lodge Theater in Venice.

The production runs through March 29, with previews Thursday, March 5, at 8 p.m. and an official opening night Friday, March 6, at 8 p.m. Beginning March 7, performances are scheduled Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Inspired by the true crimes of Dorothea Puente — who operated a Social Security scam out of her boarding house for seniors — the play explores themes of trust, vulnerability and survival. Ryan brings what collaborators describe as her signature emotional depth to a story that examines loneliness and aging in America.

Taylor-Young, a Golden Globe-nominated actress whose career spans more than five decades in film, television and stage, is best known for her work on Peyton Place, the films Soylent Green and The Big Bounce, and television series including Dallas and Picket Fences, for which she received her Emmy Award.

Ryan, who served as showrunner, executive producer, writer and director of Showtime's The L Word: Generation Q, reunites with frequent collaborators for the production, including actors Heidi Sulzman, Jessie Warner and Michelle Gardner, scenic designer Michael Fitzgerald and film producer Chris Bender.

Ryan's previous theatrical work includes One in the Chamber, A Good Family, Bugaboo and the Silent One, David Mamet's The Anarchist and Henry Johnson. Her film credits include 6 Balloons and The Four-Faced Liar.

The Electric Lodge Theater is located at 1416 Electric Ave., Venice, CA 90291. Tickets are available at thebestboardinghouseindelaware.eventbrite.com or via bit.ly/BBHID.
