In case you are wondering if this film is actually funny — it is. It happens in bursts, mostly in the first hour. See the second hour if you want to see how the flick turns out. It is still funny, but not as funny as the first hour. John C. Reilly is fully-functional and hilarious as the Johnny Cash-ish Dewey Cox. In spoofing “Walk the Line,” “La Bamba,” “The Doors,” and “Ray” this film actually is funnier than “Knocked Up” and as funny as “Superbad” but far less entertaining as a whole. Many jokes don’t grow tired however and although Reilly couldn’t sell the film on talk shows and build a big opening weekend, “Hard” will make everyone laugh who sees it.
