around, officials said. SHARE recently embarked on a project to create housing similar to sober living for people with mental health problems. One six-bed “collaborative” house already has opened for mentally ill people, and cooperating landlords throughout the county have committed 200 more beds for collaborative housing.

“Community resources provide a preparatory experience for many recovering people to get back into the work force,” said Michael Saliba, president of LACSLC, which inspects and certifies more than 170 sober living homes within the county.

SHARE helps more than 30,000 men, women, and children each year to cope with physical ailments, addiction, emotional problems, and life’s crises through referral to more than 10,000 self-help support groups, representing more than 500 different programs throughout LA County.

All of their services are available to everyone, anonymously and free. Call toll free at (877) SHARE-49. For more information on sober living housing, call toll free at (800) 799-2084.
