Misdirected sprinklers send urban runoff into Santa Monica streets

Published:

Get on board... Community meetings are being held to determine the fate of a building at Main and Bay streets — now home to Horizons West Surf Shop — and how to pay homage to the Z-Boys skateboarders that emerged from a skate shop once located there. The present owner wants to demolish the structure and erect a mixed-use “green” building in its stead. At the suggestion of the Landmarks Commission, meetings are being staged to collect public input of how to properly commemorate the site. This week’s Q-Line question: How should the former Z-boys spot be remembered? Suggestions run the gamut from a mural to a skate park to a Z-Boys walk of fame. Or should the original building remain? Call (310) 285-8106 before Friday at 5 p.m. and we’ll print your answers in next weekend’s edition.
