A local church this month is offering an opportunity for the community to meditate and pray together.

The First United Methodist Church is holding a meditation and prayer workshop on Jan. 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will focus on prayer forms such as Breath Prayer, Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina and the Body Prayer/Labyrinth Walk. The workshop will be held at the church in the fireside room, located at 1008 11th St., two blocks north of Wilshire Boulevard. The workshop is free, but pre-registration is recommended. For more information, contact Mary Garbesi at (310) 393-8258.

On Jan. 23, the church will host a Labyrinth Walk. The labyrinth is a portable canvas replica of the labyrinth laid in the floor of the Chartres Cathedral around 1220 C.E. The labyrinth is an ancient walking meditation tool. The labyrinth is open to the public, free of charge.

The Labyrinth Walk will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with the last entry at 11:15 a.m., and again from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the last entry at 3:45 p.m.
