There are many creatures lurking in the Santa Monica Bay, and this month a nonprofit organization is highlighting of the area’s bottom-feeders.
Heal The Bay, which is dedicated to preserving the Santa Monica bay, is featuring the wolf eel at the aquarium underneath the Santa Monica Pier.
There are several things the public might not know about wolf eels. For example, wolf eels can grow to be 6 feet long, and they emerge after dark to capture and crush the exoskeletons of unsuspecting sea urchins.
The bottom-dwelling wolf eel can be seen up close at Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. For more information, call 800-HEAL-BAY or visit www.healthebay.org.
