Grant Elementary School students dedicated themselves last month to helping global children and families fraught by catastrophe.
The Grant Student Council, PTA, Booster club and community service learning committee worked to put together fundraising events for UNICEF.
Parents on the community service learning committee raised $1,400 from a used children’s items sale. Students from Santa Monica High School volunteered at the sale.
The student council organized a coin drive at the school, and one third grade class raked in $70. The student council also made $200 from a recycling drive.
Local merchants supported Grant’s efforts as well. The Slice and The Counter restaurants donated a portion of “Grant Night” proceeds to UNICEF. The Shampoo Lounge, a hair salon, donated 20 percent of January’s proceeds from Grant families hair cuts, colors, and blow drys done by the owners of the salon. Eco-Coastal Cleaners donated 20 percent of revenue from items dry-cleaned by Grant families in January.
