City Council accepts $126,866 state grant to replace 365 removed trees

Published:

SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY To replace 365 trees that have been removed due to death, over-growth or disease, the City Council is getting some help from the state in the form of a grant worth $126,866.

The money is part of the “Green Trees for the Golden State,” which is run by the California Department of Forestry and funded through a 2000 bond act to increase clean air and protect the coast.

The money doesn’t come without some commitment from taxpayers here. The City Council must spend $68,984 in matching funds, most of which will go towards tree planting, administration and overhead. More than $15,000 will be spent on educating the public and on sig-nage.
