The Santa Monica Elks last week presented Lenore Johnson with the “Citizen of the Year” award for her 40-plus years of volunteer service with the Santa Monica branch of the Salvation Army. In presenting the award, exalted ruler Ray Beers detailed many areas of her accomplishments. She played music, and taught music, crafts and citizenship.
“If Lennie saw something that needed to be done, she did it,” Beers said. “She didn’t wait to be asked.”
Roy Newman, president of the California-Hawaii Elks Association (CHEA), commended Johnson for her many years of volunteer work. He also commended the Salvation Army for the significant work that it has done for so many years.
Johnson, in spite of her own personal problems — she lost her husband 27 years ago — said to be successful, you have to keep putting one foot ahead of the other day after day.
