A new park is being built in Santa Monica and City Hall wants residents to sign off on it.
The concept design for the small neighborhood park planned on the 1500 block of Euclid Street in Santa Monica will be presented for review and comment at the Feb. 17 Recreation & Parks Commission meeting.
The design team of Rios Clemente Hale Studios and artist Abbie Morganstein will present the park design scheme, which is based on community input received at two public workshops held in October and December of 2004, and upon an extensive survey to gauge park user preferences for amenities such as shade, seating, children’s playground equipment, gardening, security features and landscape planning, officials said. The commission will take public comment and also make recommendations to the City Council on the concept design.
The park project has been in the works since 1998, as part of a combined parks and housing development. Next door to the planned park is the 13-unit Hacienda del Mar, a residence for people with disabilities run by United Cerebral Palsy (UCP). UCP renovated the historic 1928 brick Spanish Colonial Revival building, formerly a Los Angeles County Health facility, and completed the construction in 2003.
The meeting will be held at the Ken Edwards Center, 1527 4th St. in Santa Monica at 7:30 p.m. Teens to jam on the pier
