Local students are climbing the stairs to musical stardom. The talents of the local school district’s music students and teachers will be showcased at the 56th annual Stairway of the Stars show on March 10-11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
The guest conductor this year is Stephen Tucker Ph.D., director of Orchestras at University of California, Irvine. Tucker developed a varied and successful career as a conductor, pianist, orchestrator, and composer. His formal music training has been pursued at institutions around the world, including the Vienna Conservatory, Austria, and the University of California at Los Angeles. His orchestrations can be heard on recordings and films, with such orchestras as the Slovak Radio Symphony and the Hungarian National Philharmonic, Budapest.
The performing ensembles will include the All-District Honor Orchestra (Elementary), High School Jazz Ensemble, and Middle and High School Orchestras. A finale will include nearly all 1,000 performers.
Tickets go on sale on March 4 and can be purchased at the district’s professional development and learning center at 2802 Fourth St., or by calling (310) 450-8338, ext. 79538. CLARE opens another piece of serenity
