The Santa Monica Gems awarded Lori Wilson, surgical oncology fellow at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, with its Business & Professional Award at the 30th Annual Black Experience Program last week at John Adams Middle School.
The annual event recognizes outstanding African-Americans in Santa Monica in business, community service, creative arts, athletics and youth achievement.
In addition to her clinical research and treatment of breast cancer and melanoma, Wilson is actively involved in community-based programs including the Center for Healthy Aging LA Witness Project and the Women’s Ministry at Double Rock Baptist Church in Compton.
