A carnival of animals will ensue this month at Santa Monica College. The Jim Gamble Puppet Productions will present “Carnival of the Animals,” a music appreciation program based on the work of French composer Saint-Saens, at SMC’s “Theater for Children” series on Saturday, March 12.
Performances are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the SMC Concert Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. Parking is free. “Carnival of the Animals” features string-and-rod puppet-actors who use a special “curtain of light” technique. The puppeteer, clothed in black, disappears behind the lighted opening, creating a magical sense of the puppets having life and movement of their own.
The award-winning Jim Gamble Puppet Productions, with more than 30 years of credits, has performed all over the world. The company has also built puppets for Disneyland, Disney World and numerous television and advertising projects.
Tickets are $6. Call (310) 434-3000 for more information.
