The Venice Artists Forum, which sponsors the annual Carnevale! Venice Beach has announced the third competition for a local artist to design this year’s logo.
This year the Carnevale! kicks off the Venice Centennial Celebration on Saturday, June 25, with an all-day, costumed Mardi Gras style festival in Windward Circle.
There is a $500 prize for best design contributed by the city of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department.
Any form of two dimensional art, photo, drawing or collage can be submitted. Although not a requirement, applicants are encouraged to work the text, "Carnivale! Venice Beach 2005‚" into their work. The theme this year is "Electric Adventures‚" and designs that reflect that will have priority.
Anyone who is interested in the details of the competition can find them on www.carnevale.us Last year’s winner, Jeffrey Verges, produced a dancing image inspired by the famous, free-wheeling ’70s in Venice and the costumes of the Carnevale in Venice, Italy.
Submissions must be 11 inches by 17 inches and must be submitted by April 1. Sculpture or three-dimensional art can be submitted via a photograph. Submissions should be sent to the Venice Artists Forum, 55 Rose Avenue, Venice, CA., 90291. Participants must live and/or work in Venice Beach.
The Carnevale! Venice Beach celebration, which was first staged in 2002 after a more than a 50-year absence, is a costume party inspired by the famed Carnevale in Venice, Italy, featuring theatrical, dance and musical performances focusing on local Venice artists.
The festival is being produced again this year by the Venice Artists Forum in association with the Venice Chamber of Commerce and is funded, in part, by a grant from the city of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department and co-sponsored by The Bank of America, and co-produced by Miriam More and Bonnie Cheeseman.
