Has Santa Monica gone far enough to protect residents from secondhand smoke?

Published:

The new film “Thank You for Smoking” makes light of much of the nation’s demonization of smoking, as well as smokers. Here in Santa Monica, anti-smoking laws have already been passed in efforts to rid the beaches and parks of smoke.

The discussion proves timely for Californians, as this week also marked the premier of the City of Calabasas’ new ban of smoking “everywhere... except as otherwise provided” — the first such wide-sweeping provision in the country. The laws restrict smokers to their homes, balconies and scant designated areas in and around the city.

So this week, Q-Line wants to know: Has Santa Monica gone far enough to protect citizens from secondhand smoke, or has it already gone too far?

Call (310) 285-8106 before Friday at 5 p.m. and we’ll print your responses in the Weekend edition.
