Local Democrats are rallying around what they believe is a threat to their freedom as Americans.

The Santa Monica Democratic Club later this month will consider action regarding the perceived threat to Americans’ civil liberties, the Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Constitution through what they describe as an abuse of the Federal Patriot Act.

The featured speaker, Stephen Rohde, is a constitutional lawyer, lecturer and writer. He is past president of Southern California American Civil Liberties Union, and of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker to bar associations, universities, and religious organizations regarding the possible threat to civil liberties and what can be done to restore them.

He is the author of “American Words of Freedom,” which explores the origins, history and meaning of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The event will be held in the community room at St. Anne’s Church, 20th Street and Colorado Boulevard, on Wednesday, March 30, at 7 p.m.

Free parking is available and the pubic is welcome at no charge. Refreshments will be served. Einstein’s theory not rocket science
