It’s time to celebrate 25 years of the status of women in Santa Monica. The Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) will celebrate its 25th anniversary at a special reception on Tuesday, March 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby at City Hall.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating 25 years of working on and advocating for issues that make a tangible difference for women and girls in Santa Monica,” said Tia Skulski, chair of COSW. “The commission has a long history of being on the cutting-edge of issues from helping found the Westside Domestic Violence Network, to helping secure a lactation station in City Hall to, most recently, advocating for the Child Protection Act, Ranked Voting and Clean Money Campaigns.”
The reception will feature COSW outstanding women leaders — women who have demonstrated exceptional personal and/or professional dedication to improving the lives of women and girls in Santa Monica, as well as recent COSW projects, such as the Report on the Status of Women and the Work-Life Study.
The commission works to enhance the status of women in the community and promotes those goals through investigation of, advocacy for and policy development regarding issues relevant to women and girls, and by creating leadership and career advancement opportunities for women and girls in the community.
