Put some play in your day. That’s the call to action at the 14th annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day. There are 9 million American kids who are overweight — more than double the percentage in 1980. With that in mind, the YMCA is sponsoring the event to promote active play and a whole-family approach to healthy living.

A parent and child dance-off, basketball, sports jam, tiny tumblers, arts and crafts are just some of events happening on Healthy Kids Day. There also will be local health-wise vendors attending with information on healthy living and new products.

Summer day camp and resident camp applications will be accepted, and camp staff will be available for answering questions.

Facility tours will be given and information on all Santa Monica Family YMCA classes and programs also will be available.

The event is being held this Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Santa Monica Family YMCA. Elks honor quick-thinking cop
